Every child deserves a loving family.
When children must be removed from their homes, Foster families answer the call to love and protect them until they can safely return home. Foster parents open their homes and hearts – helping vulnerable children heal, trust, and hope again. Is your family being called to help children in need? If you are unsure, pray about how God is calling you to help and learn more about the children in need, families who foster, and support resources available.
Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me. – Matthew 25:40
Steps to Fostering or Providing Respite Care:
- Ask God to help you discern how He wants you to help – foster, adopt, be a respite family to provide short term care, or support other foster families.
- Connect with and hear from other Catholic families who are currently fostering.
- Complete the TIPS-MAPP (Trauma Informed Partnering for Safety and Permanence and Model Approach to Partnerships in Parenting). “TIPS-MAPP” is the preparation and selection program for prospective foster and adoptive parents. It is designed to help families make an informed decision about fostering or adopting and is required by the State of Kansas. This is a free class; 30 hours of training. Register at the Children’s Alliance of Kansas website – https://childally.org/mapp/.
- Work with a local agency to complete a Home Study, background check and become a licensed foster/adoptive home through Division of Family Services.
Foster Agencies in the state of Kansas: *
Saint Francis Ministries – saintfrancisministries.org
Cornerstones of Care – Cornerstonesofcare.org
KVC Health Systems – Kansas.kvc.org
TFI Family Services – tfifamily.org
DCCCA – dccca.org
* While we share the common concern of all these agencies to help kids in difficult circumstances by providing safe and supportive home environments, we recognize that some of these secular organizations may not fully share in our Catholic values and vision of the human person. In order to help kids in crisis by providing the best possible home environments, we refer prospective foster parents to agencies the State of Kanas has certified. Referral should not be construed to be an endorsement.
