From Archbishop Joseph F. Naumann:
Dear friends, with the entire Church I am saddened at the death of Pope Francis. With his fragile health of recent months, it was quite remarkable that the Pope was able to make an appearance in St. Peter’s Square yesterday to greet pilgrims.
What a beautiful time to die during the Easter Octave! The time when we celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus and His victory over death. I encourage all of the people of the Archdiocese and all people of good will to pray for the repose of the soul of Pope Francis.
The Holy Father will always be remembered as an advocate for the unborn, the poor, the migrant, the sick and all those who suffer. Pope Francis proclaimed passionately the great mercy of God as well as the Joy of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Eternal Rest, grant unto him O, Lord and let perpetual life shine upon him. Amen.
