It is with deep sorrow that the Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas announces the passing of Archbishop Emeritus James P. Keleher. Archbishop Keleher died of natural causes in his home at the Santa Marta Retirement Community in Olathe at the age of 93 on Saturday, November 9, 2024. He was installed as the 3rd Archbishop for the Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas on September 8, 1993, and served as Archbishop until he retired on January 15, 2005.
The funeral Mass for Archbishop Keleher will be offered on Monday, November 18 at 11 am at Cure of Ars Catholic Church in Leawood, Kansas. Committal at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Kansas City, Kansas will take place immediately following the funeral Mass. Visitation will be Sunday, November 17 at Cure of Ars from 3-5:30 followed by the Vigil for the Deceased at 5:30 pm.
