ARCHBISHOP NAUMANN ON RELIGIOUS FREEDOM

Religous Freedom and Protecting Adoption Choice

Earlier this Summer, the Catholic Church of Kansas persuaded the state legislature and the Governor to pass a law that protects faith based adoption agencies from being discriminated against for respecting the rights of children to be placed in forever homes with both a father and a mother, and serving birth parents who want to place their children up for adoption in faith filled homes.  However, the bill narrowly passed and the floor debates revealed there is a great deal of prejudice and animosity towards faith communities who  defend   the  traditional understanding of marriage.

Naumann interviewed Jeanette Pryor, Legislative Liaison for the Kansas Catholic Conference, just before the vote about how Kansans can protect adoption choice and the religious freedom of faith-based adoption agencies.
