Catholic Planned Giving Brief: During the month of May we honor Mary, who even pregnant with the Son of God, “arose and went with haste” (Luke 1:39) to visit her cousin Elizabeth who was experiencing her own miraculous pregnancy. The cousin’s shared in each other’s joy and recognized God’s Providence within their lives.

To honor and imitate Mary during May and the Feast of the Visitation of Mary to Elizabeth, celebrated on May 31^st, here are some ways to create a legacy gift that will live on through new lives: Designate a percentage of a life insurance policy, your IRA, or make a grant from your Donor Advised Fund to a pregnancy center or the Pro-Life Ministry of the archdiocese. Catholic Planned Giving Brief: The Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) minimum amounts you must withdraw from your retirement accounts such as traditional IRA, SEP IRA, SIMPLE IRA each year is 72, (73 if you reach age 72 in 2023). Many parishioners who do not need their RMD are directing it to their parish or a Catholic school to avoid income taxes, make an impact for good, and show gratitude to God for your gifts of treasure. Gift Planning Brief: Do you know what will happen to your property and assets if you don’t make your wishes known?

The state will decide the order of priority in which your heirs will receive your property. What the state

prioritizes may not reflect your wishes and values. State, in writing, now, how and when you would like your heirs and charity to receive what may be left of your property, money, or investments when you die. To learn if a will, trust, or

Catholic Gift Planning Brief: 113 gifts of stock or fund shares were donated and received by the archdiocese in 2022 from the faithful to support One Faith, the Archbishop’s Call to Share, and over 30 parishes and organizations. How are gifts of stock valued? There are special rules for valuing a gift of stock. The value is determined by taking the mean between the high and the low stock price on the date of the gift. Mutual fund shares are valued using the closing price for the fund on the date of the gift. The Eucharist and Gratitude Reflections

The Reflections below are adapted from the “12 Stations” booklet from Olamshrine.com. You may copy and use these in your bulletins.

Reflection #1, John 6:48-51

Jesus said, “I am the bread of life. Your ancestors ate the manna in the desert, but they died;

this is the bread that comes down from heaven so that one may eat it and not die. I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world.”

Reflection: How can I thank God for giving us the Living Bread at every Mass through a planned gift?

Reflection #2, John 6:41

Bethlehem, which means, “House of Bread” is the birthplace of Jesus who is the “Bread of Life” (John 6:41). St. Bede said, “The place He was born is rightly called the ‘House of Bread’ because He came down from heaven to earth to give us the food of heavenly life and to satisfy us with the flavor of eternal sweetness.”

Reflection: How can I express my thanks through my estate plans to the Divine Child Jesus from coming to earth to die for love of me?

Reflection #3, The feeding of the multitudes prefigures the superabundance of this unique bread of His Eucharist (CCC, #1335).

“Then, taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he said the blessing, broke the loaves, and gave them to [his] disciples to set before the people; he also divided the two fish among them all. They all ate and were satisfied. And they picked up twelve wicker baskets full of fragments and what was left of the fish. Those who ate [of the loaves] were five thousand men.”

How has God multiplied the blessings in my life?

Reflection #4, The Eucharist prepares us for the gift of Eternal life.

Let us rejoice and be glad and give him glory. For the wedding day of the Lamb^* has come, his bride has made herself ready. She was allowed to wear a bright, clean linen garment.” (The linen represents the righteous deeds of the holy ones.) Then the angel said to me, “Write this: Blessed^* are those who have been called to the wedding feast of the Lamb.” And he said to me, “These words are true; they come from God.”

Reflection: Since the Eucharist is truly the Body and Blood of Jesus, we are in His Presence at every Mass. How can I thank our Lord for this forestate of Heaven with a financial gift to my parish?
