Project Andrew for Young Men in High School:

An Invitation from Jesus Christ to “Follow Me”

Jesus Christ is calling you to follow Him.  It’s a fact.  The question which remains is – what does that look like for you?  What is it about a relationship with Jesus Christ that has the power to transform a boy into a man – a man willing to lay down his life for his friends – as a spiritual father and priest?  Join Archbishop Joseph Naumann, Vocation Director Fr. Dan Morris, seminarian Aaron Waldeck, and area priests as together we unpack those two simple but life-giving words of Jesus: “Follow me” (Matthew 4:19).

Beginning with the viewing of a new short film titled “I Will Give You Shepherds”, Project Andrew will include a witness talk from an area high school senior sharing how he has gone about discerning his vocation these past four years.  Next you will hear from a seminarian about how his time in seminary has and is helping to form him into the man God is calling him to be.  Through his witness you will hear what seminary is and what it isn’t, as well as the reasons a young man should go to seminary, including the signs that help him to know with certainty that seminary is the next step in his journey and where God is calling him to be.  Finally, you will hear insights and highlights from a day in the life of one of our Archdiocesan priests.  As you will surely learn, to be invited by Jesus Christ to consider the life and calling of a priest is to experience a life and calling that is anything but ordinary, lonely, and boring.  Rather, it is amazingly beautiful, life-giving, and humbling to say the least.

Last but not least, our own shepherd and successor of the Apostles, Archbishop Naumann, will share his wisdom while leading us in a time of Eucharistic Adoration, a time in which you will also have the opportunity to venerate a first-class relic of Blessed Michael McGivney, an American-born parish priest who founded the Knights of Columbus and was beatified by Pope Francis on October 31, 2020.  Parents are welcome and strongly encouraged to attend, as the parents of one of our seminarians will speak about this calling and what it has been like to walk with their son through discernment.

We are excited to once again be offering an invitation to journey with the Vocation Director and area priests – just like Andrew, Simon, James and John did with Jesus.  They didn’t settle for one encounter with Christ, but sought a close relationship with him.  This high school group will meet regularly for formation, prayer, conversation, brotherhood, and growth in both faith and virtue.  The goal is to grow in relationship with Jesus Christ in a way that will prepare you to say “Yes” to the vocation God calls you to, whatever that may be.

Project Andrew is Sunday, October 3 from 1 – 4pm at Church of the Ascension in Overland Park, or attend October 10 at Christ the King in Topeka.  Come and see how your next few years can be more fulfilling, rather than risk getting lost in the culture and temptations of the day.  This is an invitation every young man should take seriously.

There is no charge.  Register above, or email vocation@archkck.org or call 913-647-0303.
