Our Mission: To bring the word of God and Communion to people in prison.

Catholic Ministry in Detention Centers

We are always ready to welcome and mentor new volunteers from any parish in the area. Schedules are created quarterly according to the availability and desires of each volunteer. We typically visit in groups of 2-4 but individuals can also be scheduled. We have Catholic resources in each facility to share with those attending.

Those we visit are polite and hungry to be fed spiritually by the Word and Eucharist for Catholics.

Each facility generally requires completion of an orientation program that lasts 1-2 hours and annual re certifications that are somewhat shorter.  There are also requests from inmates for 1-on-1 meetings which provides for a private session with a volunteer. Most of our volunteers remain engaged for many years.

In addition to completing an application, fingerprints are taken (at the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, and a KBI background check is also done. There is no charge to you for this screening. Then you will be invited to an orientation,
