Learn About the Campaign’s Impact on Our Catholic Community

One Faith, One Family, One Future in Christ is an Archdiocesan-wide capital campaign that will devote significant resources to strengthening our parishes and parish schools, growing vibrant communities of joyful discipleship, stewarding our community resources and caring for retired priests and the elderly.

The campaign will be conducted in every parish throughout the Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas. In addition, Archbishop Naumann will conduct a Leadership Gift Phase of solicitations.

There are extraordinary needs in the Archdiocese that can only be met through an extraordinary fundraising initiative that unites and serves all of the Catholics in Northeast Kansas. Archbishop Naumann has brought to the forefront key areas that require major funding which we seek to address during his tenure, including important parish initiatives, assisting consolidated parishes, promoting a culture of evangelization, caring for retired priests and the elderly.. These are needs that go beyond the scope of the annual Archbishop’s Call to Share.

Each Catholic family in the Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas will be asked to consider making a gift to One Faith, One Family, One Future in Christ. This campaign is being conducted in a phased approach so that each member is reached in the appropriate time and manner. While not all members will be able to give at the same level, each will be asked to make a sacrificial commitment.

All parishes will conduct their campaigns as part of a “block” of parishes between July 2018 and June 2020: The first group of parishes (Block One) launched the campaign in July of 2018; the second group of parishes (Block Two) launched the campaign in January of 2019; while some of the third group of parishes (Block Three) launched their campaigns in late 2019, others were launched in March, after Archbishop’s Call to Share, and immediately before COVID-19 resulted in the suspension of Mass. These Block Three parishes will be extending their campaigns through December 2020 to allow additional time for everyone to be invited to join in support of the One Faith campaign.

The pastor, assigned parish campaign director, and a core group of parish volunteers will lead and coordinate the implementation of the campaign plan. Every parish will receive assistance from the Archdiocesan campaign office staff. Full-time campaign directors will assist parishes on an ongoing basis.

Yes. The Archbishop’s Call to Share is vital to continue funding the day-to-day work of the ministries of the Archdiocese. Just as a parish would not stop offertory during a parish campaign, the Archdiocese must continue its annual appeal.

Parishes rely on their offertories. Throughout the campaign, pastors will ask parishioners to make commitments above and beyond regular giving. Parishioners are asked not to diminish giving to the offertory or the Archbishop’s Call to Share, but rather to consider an increased commitment to the Church. Parishioners are encouraged to continue to embrace stewardship as a way of

Each parish target will be set at 1.2 times the average ordinary income from the years 2015-2017. 50% of annual school subsidies will be deducted from the target for tithing parishes.

Each parish will receive 25% of the funds that are collected from its parishioners up to the parish target. These funds are to be allocated to needs outlined in its parish case for support. Parishes that exceed their target will receive 50% of the funds collected above their target. Funds collected will be dispersed every six months. In addition, support of our priests and evangelization efforts will greatly benefit every Catholic family.

Genuine stewardship encourages gifts of equal sacrifice, but not gifts of an equal dollar amount. Ultimately, your thoughtful and prayerful decision will be most appropriate and most appreciated.

Donors are encouraged to make their gift commitment payable for up to a three-to five-year period.

Yes. A sabbatical retreat provides an opportunity to come away for a longer period of prayer, rest, and renewal for a one month or more. Sabbatical guests are invited to share meals and daily periods of prayer with the resident staff and other guests, or to take meals in their cabin if they prefer silent mealtimes. Other than meals and prayer periods, the retreatant’s day can be spent in personal prayer, journaling, spiritual reading, walking, working on creative projects, or simply enjoying the beauty of nature and the deep quiet of the forest. Spiritual direction is available.

We have 18 individual spaces for guests – 6 cabins – 2 hermitages – 3 courtyard rooms – 4 guest rooms – 3 overflow guest rooms with twin sleeper sofas. If married couples are sharing the cabins and courtyard rooms then we can accommodate a total of 28 people. Christ’s Peace House of Prayer reserves the right to book individual and sabbatical retreats throughout the year. Please note that often not all the spaces are available as there is typically a sabbatical using one of the spaces. Call to check availability before booking a group retreat if all the spaces are needed.

One of our Courtyard Rooms is available to people with physical challenges. This room can be accessed without having to leave the main building, which is one level. It has a private bathroom, kitchenette, Wi-Fi, and deck. This room is the closest room to our chapel and community rooms.

Electricity is available in the main building, cabins and hermitages.

WiFi is accessible in the courtyard guest rooms, guest rooms, great room and conference room. Guests staying in the cabins and hermitages may reserve a guest room or parlor if it is available to work privately on the internet if necessary. Headphones must be used at all times to listen to your devise in the main building. Please note that the download speed is 20 meg and the upload speed is 1.5meg. Please let us know if you plan to use the internet for full day zoom meetings or activity other then occasional use.

Cell coverage is spotty but it’s usable – AT&T has the best coverage in our area. To maintain a prayerful contemplative atmosphere, we ask that guests not use cell phones in communal areas and to be respectful of your neighbor in the main building.

Spiritual direction is a ministry of compassionate presence while seeking to help another attempt to understand God’s ways and manifestations in the journey of life. It is a privileged time and place for a person to reflect with a spiritual director about one’s relationship with God. Retreat guests may meet with a spiritual director once during their stay at no cost; a suggested offering for additional sessions is $20 per session.

Persons also may wish to come to Christ’s Peace House of Prayer solely to meet with a spiritual director — in that case, the suggested donation is $20 per session. This is of course a suggested donation. No one should ever feel that compassionate guidance is unattainable due to financial constraints, please just give as you are able

Gift certificates for a stay are available. What nicer gift is there to give than the gift of time with the Lord? To obtain a gift certificate, please send a check to Christ’s Peace, along with the following information:
– Your name, address and phone number
– The name and address of the gift recipient
– The length of the stay you wish to provide and type of accommodation.
– Whether we should send the certificate to you or directly to the recipient

Eucharistic Adoration is a regular feature at Christ’s Peace. Guests are welcome to join the staff for prayers three times a day during adoration.  In the morning we have time of Lectio Divino with the gospel of the day, in the afternoon we pray the Holy Family School of Faith Rosary and in the evening we prayer the Examen Prayer to end the day.  Morning Prayer and Evening Pray from the Liturgy of the Hours bookmarks our day. If you are unfamiliar with these prayers don’t worry we will guide you.

Communal breakfast and the midday meal are a good time of fellowship.

Many guests spend their time following personal prayer practice, reading spiritual texts, walking on our extensive nature trails, journaling, napping, and doing artwork. To maintain an atmosphere of solitude, we ask that guests not play musical instruments outside their dwelling. We have a bookstore and a good-sized spiritual reading library as well as a smaller selection of CDs that may be borrowed by guests. Portable CD players are available.

We have a beautiful chapel located in the heart of the main building with the Blessed Sacrament in the tabernacle 24 hours a day. Eucharistic Adoration is a regular feature at Christ’s Peace. Sitting with Jesus in love is at the heart of contemplation.

“We do not have to talk very much in order to pray well. We know that God is there in His holy tabernacle; let us open our hearts to Him; let us rejoice in His Presence: This is the best prayer.”
   ~ St John Vianney.

Visiting priests are encouraged to offer Mass in the chapel.

We do not have a resident priest. If there is a priest on retreat, often the other retreatants are invited to his mass.

The local parish, St. Joseph of the Valley/St. Lawrence is a five minute drive in both directions. Saturday evening mass is at 5pm and Sunday morning mass is at 9am. Daily mass is offered several times during the week.

There are also several churches within a 20-30 min drive that offer daily mass including Immaculate Conception/St. Joseph in Leavenworth and Benedictine College in Atchison. A schedule of local mass times is in the guest information binders.

As much as we love all of God’s furry creatures, we do not accommodate guests’ pets.

We do have a cat named MeowToo who sleeps in the garage at night and is outside during the day. He is very friendly and often tries to convince the guests to let him inside. Please do not let him follow you into the main building or any of the dwellings

We suggest you bring two pair of walking shoes or boots, rain/snow gear in season, a flashlight, bug spray and sunblock. Dress is modest casual. You do not need to bring linens as the sheets and towels are provided.

Occasionally, based on staff availability, we can pick you up or drop you off at the airport. When staff do this it is out of their generosity, so please be considerate of their time and include a donation for gas.
