Social
Justice Immigration Game Draws National Attention
Bill Scholl, Archdiocesan social justice consultant, was invited to
present the Justice for Immigrants game to the Catholic Social Ministry
conference in February in Washington, D. C.
The national
conference sponsored by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops
(USCCB) brought together Catholic social action directors, Catholic Charities
leadership, and other social justice leaders to discuss current global and
domestic issues in light of the social teachings of the Church.
Bill was asked by Chris West, one of the national directors for the bishops’
Justice for Immigrants campaign to be a presenter, share what he’s learned, and
offer the immigration game as a resource.Justice for Immigrants is the U.S Bishops’ national campaign to educate
Catholics on how the Church’s social teachings inform the immigration issue.
The
immigration game was developed for the National Catholic Youth Conference
(NCYC) held in Kansas City in November. One of the most popular exhibits in the ThematicPark at NCYC was the life-sized
Immigropoly game board that took teens through an immigration simulation.
The
Archdiocesan offices for Social Justice and Hispanic Ministry and offices from the
Diocese of Kansas City - St. Joseph collaborated on the project.
